The homeowner, her son, neighbors, the HFH mason and the Browns pose in front of the house built under the Habitat for Humanity project.

This photo was taken in front of Esther's new home on the last day of our Habitat for Humanity build. Here she is with her son, plus the African neighbors and HFH mason (our boss for the week). We all were the daily crew, building muscles and relationships as we lugged the bricks, sand and mortar.

Johannes, one of our diamond cutters, greeted us with a giant grin and a big WELCOME BACK sign that he had made for us. He and Judy are catching up.

Mr. Rhinoceros plops into this mudhole to enjoy his own special spa treatment. Once the mud dries, he rubs against a tree or stump, removing the mud -- as well as any insect pests that are trapped by the mud as they try for a taste of rhino.

A nursing elephant, less than a week old, was a definite highlight of our time on safari. Usually the mothers, aunts and cousins surround the youngest members of the elephant family, protecting her or him from possible safety threats.

Home again

Freeport, ME — Home again. These rainy Maine days seem a perfect backdrop for savoring and sorting memories and photos of our days and adventures in South Africa. And waiting. The sparkling South African diamond beauties should arrive any day now. Their arrival will mean excitement and lots of new projects — setting earrings and designing engagement rings and pendants.

For the moment, we’ll send along a few of the photos that capture some of the highlights of our adventure. Hard to choose…so many beautiful gems and jewels, human, animal and mineral.

Sallelathe, (see you later)

Judy & Steve
